Statement
Hello, and Thank you for giving me this opportunity to introduce myself.
My name is Nicole K. Maurer. Although, I sign all of my art work, Co-Co Maurer. The reason being is because it was my father’s nickname for me, and as a remembrance towards him, I use it. I am a completely self-taught artist. I have never been to a art class in College nor in High school. My husband gave me a Bob Ross painting kit in 2017 for Christmas. I painted Feverishly for 7 months, and then we moved back here to Gypsum, and I had not picked it up again until last Thanksgiving. My best friend’s husband asked me last Christmas Eve if I would make a drawing for him. He was very particular, and wanted it done in pen. So, I said sure, and, 4 days later, he had his picture. That is what started me wanting to , no, actually it was more, craving, to try and draw. So, I started looking up things on Pinterest, then, YouTube. I have found out, I am not a very good person to sit through one of those tutorials. I tend to skip to the end to see what the final picture looks like, and then I just draw it from there. So, I have been drawing for the last year. I love to make drawings of things that my friends, or my husband, or my mother say that I should draw for them. If I’m drawing for myself, I tend to use Crosses, and mountain scenery, also, sunsets, with hot air balloons in there somewhere. I also Love to draw/ paint my Sandia mountains. I have a ton of reference photos for them. My inspiration that I have for my art? Eel, as I explained earlier, it’s like a craving…. If I don’t sit and draw at least for a few hours everyday, I am not a happy person. I need it. It’s my happy place.
